It seems there is no stopping the Aquaman movie as it continues to swim ahead at the Box Office, this time leaving fan favorites such as Venom, Thor: Ragnarok and Guardians of The Galaxy: Vol 2 behind. The blockbuster superhero film starring Jason Momoa had a pretty good Thursday night earning more than 6 Million Dollars.
Aquaman has now grossed more than $866 million worldwide as of 5th January, which puts it on the number two spot of Warner Brothers‘ highest grossing movies in the DC Extended Universe trailing behind Zack Snyder’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice by just 7 million Dollars.
It seems like Aquaman is set to be the highest-grossing DC Extended Universe worldwide, heading into the third weekend the movie faces very little competition from any other fresh release. While, as of the moment the movie is last at the domestic box office, it will surely move up to fifth place this weekend and by doing so it overtakes Justice League which earned $229 Million.
On the list of highest-grossing Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2 is on number eight with $863.8 Million while above mentioned Thor: Ragnarok comes in at ninth position with its earning of $854 Million. However Sony’s Venom comes in between them with its earning of $856 Million.
The movie has received mixed to favorable reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. From 303 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes the movie has received a score of 64%. Critics have given 22 positive, 21 mixed and 6 negative reviews for Aquaman on Metacritic. CinemaScore on its part gave the movie a ‘A-‘ on a scale of ‘A+’ to ‘F’
No matter what the critics are saying, it seems that the fans are really enjoying this superhero movie filled with action and bits of comedy. We will have to wait to see if the movie has enough gas to pass popular titles such as Batman v. Superman which sits at $330 Million domestically, Suicide Squad at $325 Million and Man of Steel which is at $291 Million. Right now, it appears Wonder Woman‘s $412 Million performance at the domestic box office will be retaining its crown as the highest-earning DC Extended Universe movie in the United States.
